Dozens of participants consisting of staff and research assistants of SurveyMETER attended the public lecture held in the 2nd Floor Meeting Room of the SurveyMETER Office on Friday, October 4, 2013. Dr. Aris Ananta and Dr. Evi Nurvidya Arifin provided sharing lectures collaboratively on the topic of "The Role of Demographic Analysis in Employment Planning". The SurveyMETER vast family felt lucky to receive these lectures directly from both of them as experts in economics and population.
The two, husband and wife, are senior researchers at the Institute of South-East Asian Study (ISEAS) Singapore and the University of Indonesia. Several interesting matters were conveyed by the speaker in the lecture, including; both experiences deepening the science of demography, what is demographic analysis, demographic trends, and future challenges for demographers. Dr. Evi revealed that demography is related to 3 aspects, namely: the number, composition, and distribution of the population; economic, social, political, and business; and fertility, mortality, and migration.
They presented a paper previously brought by the two at a seminar at the Postgraduate Population and Employment Study Program at the University of Indonesia on October 1. This public lecture was interesting because the SurveyMETER staff asked a lot of questions about this science of demography, a science that has been in the process of collecting field data for SurveyMETER's daily sustenance.
