Friday, 10/08/2012
The Purworejo Older Adults Study was conducted in July 2012, and SurveyMETER conducted another round of research methodology testing using CAPI (Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing). It is the second research conducted since 2011. Funded by AusAID's Knowledge Sector Program, this study is the independent/self-initiated research product of SurveyMETER.
A sample of 200 household respondents who had aged family members participated in the 2012 CAPI Older Adults Study, which was carried out in five subdistricts of Purworejo Regency. The fifth round of the Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS-5) 2014, which is also scheduled to employ the CAPI approach, is being prepared for implementation through this study.
In the 2012 study on older adults, a comparison was done between paper-based interviews and the CAPI program in order to assess its accuracy and efficacy. Senior and junior interviewers in the two methodologies are also contrasted. This led to the division of the technical interviews in this study into four groups, each consisting of a senior interviewer conducting an interview in pairs with a junior interviewer. The senior interviewer conducted the interview using paper, while the junior interviewer participated in the interview and completed the answers using CAPI.
Second, senior interviewers conduct interviews with CAPI while junior interviewers take part in interviews and write answers in paper. Third, junior interviewers conduct interviews with paper while senior interviewers take part in interviews and fill in answers using CAPI. Fourth, junior interviewers conduct interviews with CAPI while senior interviewers take part in interviews and write answers in paper.
This study looks at issues pertaining to the elderly using a unique set of questions. In particular, the purpose of this research is to examine the well-being of senior citizens residing in their own or their families' homes in Purworejo Regency. The physical and emotional well-being of the respondent is considered while evaluating welfare. This study specifically examines a number of topics related to the elderly, such as their traits, activities, ownership of children, relationships with children, health, transfers of the elderly, and the role that posyandu and nursing homes play in enhancing the welfare of the elderly.
