SurveyMETER in collaboration with the World Bank and the American Cancer Society (ACS) conducted research entitled " Household Survey of Clove Cigarette Rollers in Indonesia 2016". It is part of a series of studies with the clove farmers and the clove cigarette rollers household in Indonesia. Overall, it was carried out from September 2016 to February 2017, while the field data collection commenced on October 23 and was predicted to accomplish in early December 2016.

Prior to collecting field data, the survey process went through several stages including pre and pilot surveys and the training for prospective field assistants which was carried out in Kudus City. The quantitative study was collected using the Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) method.

The main objective of the study was to evaluate the economic livelihoods of the clove cigarette rolling workers, such as profile, skills, and household socioeconomic conditions. The results were useful to provide information to the Indonesian government to ensure that these clove cigarettes rolling workers have a decent economic livelihood.

The sample was 700 clove cigarette rollers households spread across Kudus, Malang, and Pasuruan in East Java Province. The locations were selected based on the number of clove cigarette factories and the number of workers of the clove cigarette factories. (JF)
