Indonesia: Urban Poverty and Program Reviews
In mid-2011, SurveyMETER was involved in the Urban PNPM Evaluation Study or the Urban Poverty Program (UPP) at the recommendation of the RAND Corporation. Funding for this study was made possible through the PNPM Support Facility (PSF). SurveyMETER's involvement is as management of field work with the coordinator of Ms. Bondan Sikoki SE MA, Dr. Ni Wayan Suriastini MPhil, and Dani Alfah S. Sos, MPA. Study samples were taken based on the locations of the Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS), namely 13 villages (Triharjo, Karo, East Cengkareng, Tambakrejo, Pancuran Gerobak, Astana, Kauman, Lirboyo, Antang, Ngestiharjo, Wiroborang, Rantepao, Hulu Banteng Lor) based on three welfare index classifications (high, medium, low) from 11 districts / cities (Kulon Progo, Pematang Siantar, West Jakarta, Surabaya, Sibolga, Cirebon, Surakarta, Kediri, Ujung Pandang, Probolinggo, and Tana Toraja) in 7 provinces ( North Sumatra, DKI Jakarta, West Java, East Java, Central Java, DI Yogyakarta, and South Sulawesi) were taken as study samples.
This division was chosen to achieve appropriate geographical representation, based on both the urban population and the allocation of PNPM-Urban funds in all of these regions. The study was conducted by conducting FGDs in sample villages / kelurahan and in-depth interviews with stakeholders from the SKPD and PNPM Urban program implementers in the sample districts / cities. The study report in the form of an English version of the Policy Note issued in January 2013 can then be accessed at the following link:
