WebGIS "In-House" Training

  • Tanggal : 16/11/2015 - 18/11/2015
  • Lokasi : Meeting Room Lt.2. Kantor SurveyMETER

SurveyMETER held an In-House Training WebGIS on Monday-Wednesday, November 16 – 18, 2015, in the Meeting Room 2nd Floor. The presenter of this training is from the Yogya Executive School 'Human Resources and Information Technology Development Partner'. It is supported by the Knowledge Sector Initiative (KSI) Program 2015.

WebGIS stands for Website Geographic Information System or Web-Based Geographic Information System or a GIS application run on the website via the internet. Simplistically, it is an area mapping information system run on the internet.

A geographic information system (GIS) is a system designed to work with spatially referenced data or geographic coordinates. GIS has the ability to perform data processing and execute certain operations by displaying and analyzing data. GIS applications are currently growing not only in number but also in increasing diversity which in the future leads to Web-based applications (WebGIS) because the development of applications in the network environment has shown great potential in relation to geo-information. An example is the existence of an online map of a city where users can easily search for the desired Venue: online via an intranet/internet network without knowing the user's geographic boundaries.

Several GIS technologies are utilized to build WebGIS systems, one of which the most popular is MapServer (using open-source concepts). For the choice of spatial database technology, there is PostgreSQL technology with support for a spatial extension called PostGIS. The selected application uses Quantum GIS is widely implemented in mapping the fields of disaster, forestry, regional management, and so on. WebGIS is essentially used to make it easier for users to find information based on spatial data via the web.

SurveyMETER realizes the importance of mastering WebGIS to facilitate the analysis process of numerous studies using Global Positioning System (GPS) technology in mapping the sample area. The closest, after this training, SurveyMETER will visualize the GPS distribution and radius of households, health facilities, and educational facilities that are the research samples onto a map.
