SurveyMETER in collaboration with the World Bank and the American Cancer Society (ACS) conducted research entitled "Indonesia Clove Farmers Survey 2016. It is part of a series of studies with the clove farmers and the clove cigarette rollers household in Indonesia. Overall, It was commenced from August 2016 to November 2016, while the field data collection started on October 17 and was predicted to accomplish on November 10, 2016.  

The main objective of this study was to evaluate the socio-economic life of clove farmers, such as clove farmer household characteristics, livelihood, income, input costs, place in the wider supply chain, general household economic situation, and so on. The purpose and benefit of this research are to help inform the government in an effort to ensure that clove farmers are a decent livelihood.

The total sample of the study was 600 clove farmer households. The enumeration areas are located in four districts of two provinces: Central Java (Pemalang and Wonogiri) and North Sulawesi (Minahasa and Bolaang Mongondow districts). The study team consisted of four teams, two teams in Central Java and 2 other ones in North Sulawesi. The team composition respectively consists of 5 members that are one local supervisor concurrently editor and four interviewers.

Prior to collecting field data, the survey process went through several stages including a pilot survey in Bojonegoro and training for prospective field assistants at the Grand Wahid Hotel, Salatiga on October 11-15, 2016. This quantitative study was collected using the Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) method. (JF)
