SurveyMETER in collaboration with Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) repeatedly conducted the 2016 Migrant Worker Empowerment Study. It is the second (midline) phase with the same title and sample of villages in 2015. The field data collection was carried out in two waves. The first wave was implemented from July 30 to August 20, 2016, while the second one was conducted in October 2016.

It was conducted in 400 villages in the provinces of Central Java (districts of Brebes, Kendal, and Cilacap), East Java (Malang district), and West Java (Cirebon, Cianjur, Indramayu, and Karawang districts). The field team was coordinated by a field supervisor who oversaw 5 teams which respectively consisted of a supervisor and 5-6 interviewers.

The study sample was 2,200 migrant respondents who were randomly selected from respondents interviewed in the 2015 baseline survey. The samples number for each village will vary between 5 or 6 respondents.

It aims to determine the condition of migrant workers in Indonesia in choosing an agency that provides work placement services abroad in terms of their knowledge of the quality of the agency, information about the agency, and the ability of migrant workers to provide information about their agency.
