SurveyMETER in collaboration with The Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) and the National Development Planning Agency (BAPPENAS) carried out the Indonesian Family Health Survey (SKKI). The field activities and data collection study process commenced in October while completed in November 2014. The study area took place in 3 villages in the Gresik district of East Java.

It was a pilot survey phase 1 prior to the baseline survey would be carried out in 735 villages in 3 provinces: North Sumatra, East Java, and Southeast Sulawesi in 2015.

The overall objective of the project was to collect data to measure family health levels as well as to provide insight into the revised National Health Insurance (JKN) premiums scheduled for 2016 through the Social Security Management Agency (BPJS). Its specific ones include investigating whether utilizing incentives, involving the community in socialization and payments, and reducing the hassle of registering would increase the participation of non-poor informal workers, reduce adverse selection, and improve JKN's financial stability.

The survey data is expected to provide input for decision-makers in the government to develop new methods for implementing the JKN program. It utilizes a tablet program that captures and records the answers to questions directly throughout the interview. (JF)
